Below are the instructions for using the Wood We Create Product Image Template in Canva. It looks like a lot of steps, but once you get the hang of it, you should be able to work through them quite quickly.
There is also a final step at the end which we use to reduce the file size of your images, which makes the pages load faster, and is quite important.
1 – From the Canva Home page screen, click “All your designs” in the left hand menu.
2 – Select “Wood We Create Product Template”. The template will open in a new window.
3 – Click “Uploads” from the left hand menu > then click “Upload media”. Follow the prompts to upload the original product image from your computer.
4 – Once the image has finished uploaded, click on the thumbnail image which has now appeared on the screen. Click on the thumbnail of the image you want to use. It will now appear on the template (see screenshot below):
5 – Use the “handles” (highlighted above) to resize the image. Generally, you can resize so that the original background is flush with the sides of the template. However, if the actual product area of the image is quite small, you can extend the background beyond the edges of the template area.
6 – Once you’re happy with the placement of the image, click on the main image again. This will show the image edit options (see below):
7 – Click on “Edit image” – highlighted above.
8 – Click on “Background remover” from the options on the left hand side of the screen. Canva will remove the background.
9 – You can now rename the document in canva – the area to do this is highlighted below, just go ahead and type over the default text.
10 – Next, click “Download” at the top right of the screen. In the dialogue box that appears, ensure PNG is the format selected, and ensure Transparent background is selected – see below:
The new image will download to your computer.
That’s it!
Reducing file size.
As a final step, and as mentioned above, we now just want to make sure the file size is as small as possible.
In a new tab, go to tinyjpg.com
Use the upload icon (circled below) to upload images (you can do up to twenty at a time. Once they’ve uploaded and processed, click the download link (highlighted below) to download the new, smaller file-sized image.
